19/12/09 Message from the Chairman
I would like to take this opportunity to wish a merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous new year to all the supporters, officials and players of Cwmbran Town Football Club. This year has been one of rebuilding and to help with this we have taken on some very experienced and respected coaching and backroom staff.
We also now have a fantastic youth structure in place, thanks to a whole army of dedicated coaches, and helpers. We have for the first time in the clubs history a Welsh league Reserve side and have also gone into partnership with Coleg Gwent to jointly run an Academy. This has all been achieved in a very short space of time and a big thank you and well done goes out to everyone involved. It is fair to say that not everything has gone our way, but we are finishing 2009 on a high note with the first team at last putting away the chances that they are creating, winning 4 – 1 last Saturday and the Reserves winning their last two games.
Some of the many obstacles we have to overcome is that many of our opponents still perceive The Crows as ‘one of Welsh Footballs big clubs’ and teams do raise their game when they come to play at the stadium. Having witnessed some of the league grounds first hand I can see why this happens. Also fund raising has been a lot harder during the last year or two with the ‘credit crunch’.
We are always looking to attract more sponsorship to the club and on the look out for new fund raising ideas, and also trying to get more people involved with the running of the club. If you or you know of anyone that would be interested in getting involved or have a fund raising idea please contact me on 07727 198300 or carolynn@purcell29.fsnet.co.uk
